Sisters
This body of black-and-white combination prints, created through traditional film and darkroom techniques, is a tribute to my sister Francisca and the influential women in my life. The project was born during a challenging time when my first daughter was born, and my father became seriously ill. My sister, who had just become a mother for the second time, took on the responsibility of caring for our father. Her strength and selflessness deeply impacted me.
As I navigated the emotional conflict of being torn between my father’s needs and my daughter’s, I turned to the darkroom for solace. The process became a form of meditation, helping me cope with grief and the feeling of division within myself.
Through this work, I discovered the profound support and connection that exists among the women in my life—a bond that felt natural and deeply rooted. The images I created reflect themes of grief, forgiveness, gratitude, and the cycles of life, all influenced by my relationship with nature and motherhood.
This project is a celebration of the strength and resilience of the women who have guided and supported me, particularly my sister, who empowered me to live authentically. It invites viewers to reflect on the ways we navigate life’s challenges and the importance of the connections we nurture.
